Becoming CEO of Your Home

Every business should have a CEO, someone who has a vision for the company, where it should go, and how to get there. With that same idea in mind, every home should also have a CEO. The CEO of your house should have similar functions to that of the CEO or a business. So what should you do to become the CEO of your home. Here are a few steps to get you moving in the right direction.

1.Delegate. First you need to understand the different roles of your home, paying the bills, taking out the trash, walking the dog, feeding the kids, cleaning the bathroom. Once you have a list of different tasks decide who can handle what. Just like a CEO you should focus on who can handle which tasks the best. Who will enjoy doing what? Who can get the job done the most efficiently? Figure out who will do what and make sure they stay on top of it, and don't just go and do all of the tasks on your own. Pick the ones that you are going to complete and make yourself stick to them. You need to lead by example.

2.Think big. Have a long term vision for your family with short term goals along the way. You may pick something like "purchase a home in 5 years" as your long term goal. From there you need to set short term goals along the way and make sure the people in your household do what they need to achieve those goals. If you are planning to buy a home in a few years your short term goals may be something like, "save $5,000 this year", "save $40,000 total", "improve our credit scores". Once your goals are set then you will need to start working on achieving those goals. You may need to do things like find areas to cut spending, increase incomes, and make sure bills are paid on time. I know it's much easier said than done, but its very possible.

3. Reprimand. Being a CEO can't be all fun and games. At some point you will need to be tough. Just like a real CEO, if someone isn't doing their job then you need to fix the issue. Unfortunately, handling family members can be a little more difficult than employees, you can't fire your family. As CEO it's your responsibility to make sure the ship stays afloat and on course, so if someone is starting to veer, you need to redirect them. You will notice some time you may just need to show someone how to do a task better, or remind them they need to do a task. On the other hand you may need to get more extreme and have someone completely stop doing a task. If someone is slacking a bit on a task you may want to have them do something they won't enjoy, clean the bathroom for example, for a week and see if they appreciate the tasks that they were given more. You know your family, you will see what works and what doesn't. Take the time to figure out a plan that will have your family functioning like a well-oiled machine.

These are a few things to get you in the mindset of being the CEO of your home. Being the CEO is an important task and can truly make a household function better. One last tip, depending on your family you may want to change everyone's tasks once in a while so they don't fall in the doldrums of doing the same jobs all of the time. Enjoy being your home's CEO and take your family to the next level!
